Wirtshaus Herlitschka
Vienna
Project: Refurbishment of a traditional Viennese inn
Location: Vienna
Status: completed
Year: 2019
Client: KUKKING Wirtshaus GmbH. togehter with Axel Kordik and Erik Klapper
The takeover of the Herlitschka inn in Vienna's 3rd district was a project close to my heart, a business project, but also an architectural project.
The task: to adapt the space by adding classic elements of the Viennese inn in such a way that after the intervention the impression arises that the place appears unchanged for decades.
The starting position can be described as follows. Old, traditional tavern, with the historic Bretschneider bar still preserved, walls and ceilings darkly yellowed from the tobacco smoke deposited over the years. The blissful wine Heuriger decoration (decorative wine barrels on the wall, grapevine shaped lamps, salmon-colored tablecloths made of synthetic fabric ...) (Heuriger - a tavern where local winemakers serve their new wine under a special license in alternate).
The task: to adapt the space by adding classic elements of the Viennese inn in such a way that after the intervention the place appears unchanged for decades.
Thus all "accessories" were removed so that the beautiful vault could be restored to its former glory. We replaced the lamps with classically elegant spherical luminaires, the walls became white again, and most importantly: the tables are garnished once more with typical red and white checked tablecloths.
Voilà, the old Herlitschka, just a little bit modernized and renewed ...
